The beaches of Pescara

You’ll also find some of the most beautiful beaches along the Adriatic here, including Pescara Beach (Spiaggia di Pescara), which as its name suggests is the city’s main beach. It’s known for its long stretch of fine golden sand and clear waters. There are also numerous beach clubs (stabilimenti balneari) with sun loungers, parasols and food and drink outlets.

Torre del Cerrano near Pineto

Torre del Cerrano beach is named after the historic tower that borders it. Add to that the pine forest near the beach and you have the ideal place to spend a day relaxing in natural beauty.
Finally, there is the beach of Pineto, a village near Pescara, which, like the Torre del Cerrano beach, has a pine forest that runs along the coast. This provides plenty of shady spots, ideal for people who do not want or cannot lie in the sun.

Montesilvano beach

North of Pescara is Montesilvano beach, which is the best choice for families due to its many facilities such as playgrounds and picnic areas.

Further south, you will find Francavilla al Mare beach, which attracts visitors for its clean sand and crystal clear waters. You will also find excellent fish restaurants there.

Campo Imperatore

The Campo Imperatore is a plateau in the Italian region of Abruzzo, located in the Gran Sasso (Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park), the highest mountain range of the Apennines. The plateau is over 15 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. The average altitude is about 2000 meters.

To the north, the Campo Imperatore is bordered by the mountains Monte Brancastello (2,385 m), Monte Prena (2,561 m) and Monte Camicia (2,570 m).

The Campo Imperatore can be reached by cable car, departing from Fonte Cerreto (1150 m) and the ascent takes about seven minutes. By car, the plateau can be reached from the same place via a 30 km long panoramic road. Near the cable car top station there is an astronomical observatory and a botanical garden. Mountaineers usually start their ascent to the peaks of the Gran Sasso here. It is also one of the oldest ski resorts in Italy: skiing was already taking place here in the 1920s. Due to its proximity to Rome, it remains a popular destination.

On September 12, 1943, Benito Mussolini, held prisoner in the "Hotel Camp Imperatore", was liberated here by German paratroopers who landed there by glider.
